Happy Renting 2024
watercolour and ink on paper
28 x 38 cm
VLO24-0001
Artlife, Footscray Community Arts Centre
“Vickie’s mould watercolour works reframe fungi as a quiet force of regeneration. Using watercolour, she encourages reactions that echo natural growth patterns. These slow, alchemical processes allow blooms of colour to spread, settle and sometimes resist, forming surfaces that appear microscopic, cellular and alive. Rather than treating mould as something to be feared or discarded, Vickie presents it as a site of beauty and renewal. Her paintings invite viewers to look closely and reconsider what has been misunderstood, revealing transformation as an essential part of life.” —Artlife

ABOUT
Vickie Lock is a multidisciplinary artist whose experimental practice explores themes of urban decay, mould and the cyclical nature of life. Fascinated by the aesthetics of imperfection, she draws inspiration from overlooked and decomposing subjects, challenging conventional notions of beauty. Her work celebrates transformation and regrowth, finding poetry in what is often dismissed as waste or decay. Lock has exhibited extensively and is currently an artist in residence at Artlife, Footscray.
