Indonesia X Australia
International Cultural Exchange
Expanding Surrounding,‘Mengembangkan Sekitar’ in Indonesian, builds on the successful 2024 'Capturing Surrounding' UK/Indonesia collaboration and will generate dynamic peer-to-peer collaborations between Australian and Indonesian artists and organisations.
Australian artist Vipoo Srivilasa recently had the opportunity to visit Bandung to meet his collaborator Achmad Ilham Sadikin in person, bringing their creative dialogue from the digital realm into face-to-face connection. Meanwhile, Claudia Panca Fadilla (Indonesia) and Anna Louise Richardson (Australia) have held productive online meetings as they develop their collaborative work.
The project culminates in a Melbourne-based suite of exhibitions, artist and staff residencies, educational talks, and professional development workshops, creating rich opportunities for artists, staff, and audiences from both countries to engage and learn from each other, launching 18 October 2025. The artist residency at Jump Left project space will be undertaken by Adryan Adinugraha from Tab Space, who will travel to Melbourne with two staff members.
This initiative deepens cross-cultural partnerships whilst fostering genuine understanding between our creative communities. It creates mutually beneficial opportunities for both creative and professional growth, building meaningful connections that extend far beyond the project itself.
This project is funded by the Australian-Indonesia Institute at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Creative Australia and by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, with venue partner Impact Neighbourhoods.
