Colorful cubist-style painting of three abstract faces with geometric shapes and bright colors, framed and hanging on a white wall, surrounded by plants and shelves.
Sandra Lott, Cubism, 2021, felt pen on paper, Limited edition print. From Art et al.'s Peer / Peer Collaboration 03, between Emily Ferretti and Sandra Lott (Submit to Love Studios).

Participating in the Visual Descriptions at Ballarat Foto program was both professionally enriching and deeply meaningful. Through the capacity-building workshop led by Sim Lüttin and Christine McFetridge, I developed specialised skills in writing vivid, accessible descriptions that enable blind and low-vision audiences to engage with visual art on their own terms.

These skills have directly informed my work as a content marketing specialist, where I now integrate more inclusive and accessible approaches into digital campaigns and audience engagement strategies. It has also had a profound influence on my own practice as a photographic artist, challenging me to consider how my work can be experienced beyond the visual and inspiring me to create with accessibility in mind. The collaborative process at Ballarat Foto fostered a genuine sense of inclusion, highlighting how accessibility strengthens the cultural landscape for everyone. This initiative doesn’t just remove barriers, it empowers artists, writers, and audiences to connect in new ways. Contributing to a festival that prioritises accessibility reaffirmed my belief that art should be for all, and I am proud to have played a role in a project with such lasting community impact.”
