Rock Chick 2024
watercolour, posca and pen on paper
36 x 29.5 cm
TRA24-0001
Courtesy Artlife, Footscray Community Arts Centre

Rock Chick is influenced by the expressive freedom of Picasso, the colour and vitality of Matisse, the intricate dot work of Yayoi Kusama and the emotional intensity of Expressionism. Rasen approaches painting as a space of liberation. Her travels through Europe, especially time spent sketching and studying Persian mosaics and ancient stoneware at the Louvre, continue to inform her sense of form, pattern and texture.” —Artlife

ABOUT

Tania Rasen is a figurative and abstract painter exploring emotion, memory and the balance between endurance and celebration. Working with watercolour, acrylic and ink on paper, she creates bold, surreal compositions shaped by rhythmic colour and form. Inspired by dreamlike landscapes and time at her family’s beach house, her work reflects lived experience and resilience. Rasen’s disability and recovery from a heart attack and pacemaker surgery inform her approach to painting as a space of freedom and hope. Rasen is currently an artist in residence at Artlife, Footscray.
