Pixie Albert Reflection
HELEN BUTCHER

Helen Butcher echidna on colourful background

Helen Butcher’s unique approach uses drawn coloured shapes, all linked together. Animals and other objects are sometimes layered over the background, giving off an optical illusion effect, where the person needs to stare, to find the hidden treasure. Is that a cat? an echidna? The mystery slowly unfolds, as you investigate each piece. Her work evokes the awe and wonder of childhood—eye pressed to a vintage kaleidoscope, watching patterns materialise as if by magic.

By Pixie Albert

Writer and artist Pixie Albert offers intimate glimpses into seven works featured in CONVERGENCE through personal written responses.

Rather than traditional descriptions, these reflections capture the emotional resonance and individual experience of encountering each artwork. Albert's poetic observations invite audiences to see through fresh eyes, revealing hidden layers and unexpected connections within the exhibition.

These contemplative pieces can be read or listened to, adding a rich dimension to the visual experience, and demonstrating how art speaks differently to each of us.
