Pixie Albert Reflection
ALEX MCKENZIE

Alex McKenzie has a keen eye—every detail is captured in his art. It’s like a photographic record. This piece showing coloured boathouses with family and friends enjoying the sunshine, is one of the most complex: Boardwalks with planks of varying shades, scattered kelp, stained glass in the hut behind…it’s a very happy scene and I sense from the blue tackle box behind them, a day of fishing is scheduled. There’s just one problem; Pelicans have them under surveillance! Let’s hope they had a diversion plan.

ARTIST REFLECTIONS
By Pixie Albert

Writer and artist Pixie Albert offers intimate glimpses into seven works featured in CONVERGENCE through personal written responses.

Rather than traditional descriptions, these reflections capture the emotional resonance and individual experience of encountering each artwork. Albert's poetic observations invite audiences to see through fresh eyes, revealing hidden layers and unexpected connections within the exhibition.

These contemplative pieces can be read or listened to, adding a rich dimension to the visual experience, and demonstrating how art speaks differently to each of us.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Alex McKenzie joined Artmania in 2015 and possesses an incredible ability to capture quiet scenes with sensitivity and reflection.

He employs fine lines and watery marks to highlight the magic and beauty in everyday moments, depicting figures caught in moments from their daily lives.

This series reflects a cherished period from the 1980s and 90s for McKenzie when he and his father owned two huts at Werribee beach. This time represents a most treasured time of his life. Some works from this series draw from photographs, while others are from memory.

McKenzie's artwork demonstrates the meticulous attention to detail. The illustrative quality of his work captures viewers' attention and invites them to reflect and ponder the beauty of quiet moments.
